"...another reason I'm intrigued with the hanged of Salem, especially the women, is that a number of them aroused suspicion in the first place because they were financially independent, or sharp-tongued, or kept to themselves. In other words, they were killed off for the same sort of life I live right now but with longer skirts and fewer cable channels." Sarah Vowell, The partly cloudy patriot.

This is what bugs me about Obama

Today NIU is having a memorial service for the students killed almost 2 weeks ago. Apparently Barack Obama will be there, and of course Dick Durbin will be as well.

Where has Obama been for all the other Illinois events since he became our Senator? What exactly has he done for our state since we elected him to office? Dick Durbin is the one on the news all the time going to events, showing support to groups and victims, trying to pass legislation to reflect Illinois concerns, speaking out about Illinois concerns ... Whereas, quite frankly, it seems like the entire time Obama has been our senator, he has been campaigning to be president. He's been focused on making an impression on the nation, not on Illinois. He's more concerned about using his position to get to the white house, not to affect change in our state. This pisses me off.

And I can't believe that this isn't being brought up more.

What have you done for us lately, Obama?

As an undecided voter, I had similar questions about the two Democratic candidates' Congressional efforts, so I did quite a bit of research a few weeks ago (which admittedly was a lot less time-consuming than it used to be, pre-WWW!) to try to figure out what's what. Yesterday, one of my co-workers sent me a link to Grassroots Mom's extensive assessment. Based on my findings, I can confirm that GM's evaluation is highly accurate, and also that it provides an excellent overview of Clinton's and Obama's recent legislative activities. Maybe her detailed post will help you fairly evaluate the two candidates' focuses and strengths too, Shrinky, as well as answer your specific question about what Obama has been doing since he took his seat in the Senate.

I don't get this post. Obama is running for president. That would be great for IL in itself as it is.
You can make the same arguement for Clinton or McCain in their respective state. Thay are away too. So why single out Obama. It doesn't make sense.
